Foreign Travel and Settlement in Kundli — Houses and Yogas

The houses and planets Vedic astrologers read for foreign travel, study, work and settlement abroad: the 12th, 9th, 7th and 3rd houses, Rahu, the Moon and the dashas that bring a move.

The houses of distance

12th house — foreign lands, living far from the birthplace, settlement abroad.
9th house — long journeys, higher studies and pilgrimage.
7th house — travel for business and dealings with foreigners.
3rd house — short journeys and the courage to move.
4th house — the homeland; affliction to it is traditionally read as living away from home.

Classical pointers

Links between the lagna lord or 10th lord and the 12th house; the 4th lord in the 12th; Rahu (the planet of foreigners) in the lagna, 7th, 9th, 10th or 12th; and movable signs (Mesha, Karka, Tula, Makara) or water signs prominent in the chart are all associated with foreign connections. The Moon, which governs travel over water, is also considered.

Timing

Moves abroad commonly happen in the dashas of Rahu, the 12th lord, the 9th lord or planets in those houses.

Living abroad, keeping traditions

For families who have moved, MyPujaWorld lists festival dates, temples and events in cities around the world — see the city guides and temple directory.

These are traditional principles of Vedic astrology. A real reading weighs the whole chart — lagna, house lords, divisional charts (especially the D10 Dashamsha for career), dashas and transits — so treat this as guidance and consult an astrologer for decisions.
