Type one or more names you are considering — one per line — and, if you like, the owner's date of birth. We calculate each name's Chaldean number and how well it suits the owner. Nothing is sent to MyPujaWorld.

Why families check a business name

In India it is common to check a new shop, company or brand name with numerology before registering it — alongside choosing a muhurat for the opening and a puja for Lakshmi and Ganesha. The idea is simple: every letter carries a number, the name adds up to a number, and each number is linked with a planet whose qualities the business is said to take on.

How the name number is calculated

Indian numerologists mostly use the Chaldean system, in which letters have values from 1 to 8 (A, I, J, Q, Y = 1; B, K, R = 2; C, G, L, S = 3; D, M, T = 4; E, H, N, X = 5; U, V, W = 6; O, Z = 7; F, P = 8). Add the values of all letters to get the compound number, then add its digits until one digit remains — the name number. Use the name exactly as it will appear on the signboard, letterhead or registration.

Numbers traditionally favoured for business

  • 5 (Mercury) — the classic business number: trade, communication, media and quick turnover.
  • 1 (Sun) — leadership, a strong brand and independence.
  • 3 (Jupiter) — growth, education, consultancy and finance.
  • 6 (Venus) — hospitality, food, fashion, beauty and luxury.
  • 9 (Mars) — property, construction, engineering and sports.

Numerologists are more cautious with 4 (Rahu) and 8 (Saturn), which are traditionally linked with ups and downs or slow, hard-won success — though 8 is respected for heavy industry and long-term projects. 2 and 7 are considered better for service, healing and research than for competitive retail.

Compound numbers

Many numerologists also read the compound total using the system popularised by Cheiro in his Book of Numbers. Totals such as 14, 15, 19, 23, 24, 32, 37, 41 and 46 are traditionally considered fortunate for business, while 16, 18, 22, 26, 28, 29, 35, 38 and 43 call for care. The checker above shows the traditional meaning of each total.

Matching the name with the owner

A name number that is "friendly" with the owner's Moolank and Bhagyank is preferred. Friendships follow the planets: the Sun (1), Moon (2), Jupiter (3) and Mars (9) form one group; Mercury (5), Venus (6), Saturn (8) and Rahu (4) another. Enter the owner's date of birth in the checker to see which names suit.

Adjusting a name

If a name you love gives an unfavourable number, small changes are traditional: adding or doubling a letter, adding "Shree" or "The", using initials, or choosing a different suffix (Traders, Enterprises, Foods, Studio). Always check that the new name is still easy to say, spell and search for — and that it is available for registration and as a website domain.
