How to observe Ekadashi
- Eat a light, sattvik meal on Dashami (the day before) and avoid grains after sunset.
- On Ekadashi, bathe early, worship Lord Vishnu with tulsi leaves, flowers and a lamp, and recite the Vishnu Sahasranama or Ekadashi katha.
- Fast according to your capacity — nirjala (without water), with fruits and milk, or one sattvik meal without grains and beans.
- Spend the day in prayer and charity, and avoid rice, onion, garlic and non-vegetarian food.
- Break the fast (parana) the next morning on Dwadashi within the parana time, ideally after offering food to Vishnu.
