Panchamrit
Panchamrit ("five nectars") is a mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar used to bathe the deity and shared as prasad in Satyanarayan Puja, Janmashtami and many other pujas.

- 1 cup Milk (boiled and cooled)
- 2 tbsp Fresh curd (plain yoghurt)

- 1 tbsp Sugar or mishri
- 4–5 Tulsi leaves (add after offering)
- Makhana or dry fruits (optional)

- Whisk the curd until smooth.
- Add milk, ghee, honey and sugar and stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Add tulsi leaves (and makhana or chopped dry fruits if you like).
- Offer to the deity, then serve a spoonful to each devotee in the right palm.
Why this prasad for Satyanarayan Puja?
Each ingredient is considered pure and nourishing; together they are offered in abhishek and then given to devotees as charanamrit.
Tips, variations & storage
Tips for success: use fresh, slightly sweet curd — sour curd makes panchamrit taste sharp. Boil and cool the milk first. Mix gently so the ghee stays in small droplets.
Variations: many families add makhana, chopped dry fruits or a little coconut. In some South Indian temples panchamritam is a thick sweet made with bananas, jaggery, ghee, honey and dates — quite different from the liquid North Indian version.
Serving and use: panchamrit is used for abhishek (bathing the deity) and then given as charanamrit — a spoonful poured into the right palm, sipped, and the hand touched to the head. Make it fresh just before the puja and use it the same day.
Making it outside India
Any plain full-fat yoghurt works. Tulsi grows well indoors in pots abroad; holy basil is also sold in Asian grocery stores.

Frequently asked questions
Can panchamrit be made in advance?
It is best made fresh, just before the puja.
Is panchamrit the same as charanamrit?
Panchamrit is the five-ingredient mixture; after it has been offered to the deity it is distributed as charanamrit.
Can I make vegan panchamrit?
Some families abroad use plant milk and yoghurt for guests, but traditional panchamrit uses dairy, as the five ingredients are themselves the offering.
