Meaning in English
Glory to Mother Ambe, the fair and the dark Gauri, on whom Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva meditate day and night.
Vermilion shines in your hair parting and musk on your forehead; your two eyes are bright and your moon-like face is lovely.
Your body glows like gold and you are dressed in red, with a garland of red flowers at your neck.
You ride a lion and carry a sword and a bowl; gods, people and sages serve you, and you remove their sorrows.
Earrings adorn your ears and a pearl your nose; your radiance equals millions of moons and suns.
You destroyed Shumbha, Nishumbha and Mahishasura; you killed Dhumralochana.
You slew Chanda and Munda, Raktabija, and Madhu and Kaitabha, freeing the gods from fear.
You are Brahmani, Rudrani and Kamala; the scriptures praise you, the queen of Shiva.
The sixty-four yoginis sing auspicious songs and Bhairava dances to the beat of drums and the damru.
You are the mother of the world and its sustainer; you take away devotees' sorrows and give happiness and wealth.
Your four arms are beautiful, one raised in blessing; men and women who serve you receive what their hearts desire.
A golden plate holds incense, camphor and lamps, shining like millions of jewels.
Whoever sings this aarti of Mother Ambe, says Swami Shivanand, gains happiness and prosperity.
